Sorry, the only way to flee is away from CA, not to. Does look like a neat place though.

I love abandoned roads!

It appears to be in better condition than some of the "maintained" roads in the US.

True dat. California may have its issues politically, but other than that it is a world unto itself. ANYTHING can be found here.

Anyplace that is not known by the masses will be prized when the time comes.

Theless who know the better.

how long ago was it abandoned? couldn't have been that long... so its amazing to me how quickly nature reclaims our perversions of civilization. We think we are destroying the planet but really we are just destroying ourselves. the planet will so readily reclaim all of our cities and infrastructure after we die off that an alien race would probably have to struggle to find any signs of us after only a few centuries of our disappearance. that's a blink of an eye in terms of earth's lifetime.

Unless you want to grovel in mud huts as part of a hunter-gatherer society, it is ridiculous to characterize the achievements of mankind to adapt his habitat to serve him more efficiently as "perversions of civilization".

It was a description from the perspective of the Earth, obviously.

What amazed me is how much longer the new highway travels to reach the same destination. what prompted the switch? Just curious.

The bushmen of the kalahari have an average workweek of about 20 hours, and the work itself is mostly hiking and hunting in the great outdoors.

I don't want to idealize, because, honestly, it's hard to imagine life without Roman plumbing. But there is a high price for our various conveniences.
